VW Bloodshots Zoanthids
One of the most unique looking zoanthids that we have the pleasure of growing in the farm. They have great growth rates and get rather large polyps under the right conditions. What makes this zoanthid so unique is their ability to have a wide variety of hues and spectrums from the same frag. Some of the polyps may have a "rainbow" like sheen around the silver-blue ring, while others will be a more soft pastel sky blue. The center coloration can also be a soft purple and transition to a more red-magenta coloration. You can see the slight differences in this grown out frag shown.
Although named Bloodshots, this morph belongs more closely to the "Vampire" family of zoanthids, which are known for their vampire fangs on the body and silvery hue. However, this zoanthid morph tends to get confused more often with Sonic Flares/ Vamps in Drags. Both have very similar patterns, but this one has a more pink center and softer blue coloration, while the Sonic Flares have a more distinct silver body with red rings. We're not sure where the name transition started, but VW Bloodshots and Vamps in Drags are definitely different zoanthids. Both are equally gorgeous, with the VW Bloodshots being almost a pastel version of the Vamps in Drags/ Sonic Flares.

Care Level
Great beginner coral! Does not consume elements such as alkalinity, calcium, and magnesium readily. A great choice if you're looking to keep a low maintenance reef or are just getting into the hobby and haven't built a strong understanding of the hobby yet.
Growth Rate
A moderate grower! Increased growth with feeding such as Benepets.
Lighting Placement
Prefers to be kept in lower to medium light. Lower light will bring out a more peachy toned body but larger polyps. Higher light will bring out a more silver body but smaller polyps.
Currently kept under Kessil A360X units. Mounting height 24" above water line. 12:00PM - 10:00PM at 100% blue intensity.
Flow Strength
We recommend starting smaller zoanthid frags in lower flow until it reaches a small colony size. Once established, increase the flow level to avoid any detritus building up in between the mat. If detritus builds up inside the matting of the zoanthid, it can cause bacterial issues.
Currently kept with Maxspect Gyre 350s Pumps.
