ER Speckled Fire and Ice Zoanthids

ER Speckled Fire and Ice Zoanthids

Speckled Fire and Ice are one of the most incredible and underrated zoanthids in our opinion. At first glance, they're just a small all-orange zoanthid. But looking closer, they're adorned with beautiful icy blue speckles. This icy blue coloration looks like it starts from the center and explodes outwards, almost like a "big bang" of icy blue stars. Speckled Fire and Ice Zoanthids tend to stay on the smaller side. Not as small as a micro-zoanthid, but smaller than the typical zoanthid (like Rastas or Bam Bams). More like a... nano-zoanthid instead of micro? Hopefully, that gives a good idea of their size. Their small size is a part of their charm, as there are not too many zoanthids that are this size in the hobby. However, their small size does make them more susceptible to disease and issues involving detritus. So as a small frag, they will grow well and with gusto. However, as they grow in size into a colony it is very important to give them more flow to prevent any detritus from irritating them. If the stronger flow isn't possible, be sure to spot clean them a few times a week with a turkey baster.

For some reason, some Speckled Fire and Ice Zoanthids have been being sold and named as "Blondies," which is a different zoanthid morph. Speckled Fire and Ice are a much rarer variety to find, so if you do happen to find "Blondies" for sale and it's these, be sure to pick them up!

  • Originator

whodah / Jeremy of Exotic Frags)

  • Care Level

Best tried after you've had success with a few other easier corals first and have an understanding of basic reef chemistry such as keeping salinity, alkalinity, calicium, and magnesium levels consistent. The coral itself is very easy to care for if you test for your parameters often and have created a consistent maintanence routine for your reef!

  • Growth Rate

    A moderate grower.

  • Lighting Placement

Prefers to be kept in lower to medium light.

  • Flow Strength

We recommend starting smaller zoanthid frags in lower flow until it reaches a small colony size. Once established, increase the flow level to avoid any detritus building up in between the mat. If detritus builds up inside the matting of the zoanthid, it can cause bacterial issues.
